Burg Stahleck Karatepraxis Retreat – July 2025

The Karatepraxis Retreat at Burg Stahleck this year was once again beyond words—truly unforgettable and filled with growth, laughter, and connection.
We had the privilege of training under some truly incredible instructors: Sensei Iain Abernethy, Christian Wedewardt, Master Ken and Matt Page. Each of them brought their own unique approach and energy to the seminars, and we were incredibly lucky to benefit from their deep knowledge, generosity, and passion for karate.
From powerful bunkai sessions to dynamic drills and insightful workshops, every class was a learning experience in its own right. The energy was heightened by over a hundred amazing participants.
One of the absolute highlights was The Master Ken Show—an unforgettable experience full of humor, surprise, and “Ameri-Do-Te” flair! If there had been a prize for “The Person Who Laughed the Most,” I would have gladly and proudly accepted it—with grace and a big smile! 😂
Every year at this retreat brings something special. Last year was amazing, but this year truly outdid itself—especially having most of the team together. We trained hard, shared deeply, and laughed freely. The sense of family, community and purpose was something I will carry with me for a long time.

We’re gonna have a good one? We had a great one.
Already looking forward to next year!
OSS! 🥋✨

An incredible experience at the 2025 karate retreat at the castle. Unbelievable location, fantastic organisation, wonderful atmosphere and great company. Christian, Iain and Matt all provide inspiring instruction in such a relaxed manner. I definitely would wholeheartedly recommend and look forward to returning

Karate praxis has given me a different view of what karate should be and supplements my own training perfectly. Christian makes the classes very fun and engaging whilst adding a serious no nonsense approach. A thoroughly fun and fantastic experience

  • I hosted a seminar with Christian in Vaasa, Finland in October, 2019. It was a really nice weekend, and we greatly enjoyed his teaching. The methods and bunkai we did were suitable for all grades. His teaching methods are really unique, you learn bunkai quickly in a very fun way. Our juniors really enjoyed the kids practice and so did the adults. Thank you for a memorable weekend, hope to see you again soon!

We attended Christian Wedewardt’s seminar in Vaasa, Finland on 5th – 6th October, 2019. During the weekend, we went through material from the white belt level to the orange belt level, studying first three Heian katas. Christian’s approach was practical and fun to do, and pedagogically sound. The content of the seminar was appropriate for all levels of practitioners. Even though we have been doing Heian katas for several years, his perspective gave many new ideas and new ways to think about katas. We had really good time kicking and punching each other, training hard but at the same time smiling and laughing, too! We now have a new karate quote: ”Karate is a feeling – and that feeling is pain” by Christian Wedewardt 😀 Thank you so much for visiting Finland and hope to see you soon again!

Thank you Christian for a fantastic seminar last weekend in Vaasa Finland. Really enjoyed your teaching style and your insights to Heian Katas. Your teaching style is dynamic and execiting. Really wish to attend your seminars also in the future some day somewhere. All the best!

  • Trying to remember what Christian told me to write, karatepraxis is the best…
Just kidding, this are my own words. First seminar in Finland is over and that was probably the best seminar I’ve ever been. All the pain and laughing is what karate seminars should be. Techniques were practical and simple so even I learn a lot. Thank you both, can’t wait next seminar, when ever that will be.

  • Thank you for a wonderful seminar in Finland! New ideas and new inspiration! Excellent that all grades could follow your program, everybody enjoyed it greatly! 🙏
